A new resource developed for the polar research community provides essential guidance on how to make research data more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable – known as the FAIR principles.
A Brief Guide to Publishing Data for the Polar Research Community was collaboratively produced by the SCAR Standing Committee on Antarctic Data Management (SCADM), the Arctic Data Committee (ADC), and the Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS) Data Management Sub-Committee.
This practical guide offers clear, step-by-step advice to help researchers prepare and publish data in ways that maximise discoverability, usability, and impact. Topics include selecting trusted data repositories, writing effective metadata, choosing appropriate licences, and ensuring proper citation and attribution.
By following the recommendations outlined in the guide, researchers can increase the visibility of their datasets, contribute to global polar data efforts, and support open science initiatives.
The guide is now available to download on Zenodo.
