What are SCAR Opportunities?

SCAR relies on its international network of volunteers who contribute their time and passion to drive SCAR’s activities forward and enable SCAR to carry out its crucial work in international science facilitation and in delivering scientific advice to policy.

This page lists new opportunities within our groups and programmes. Listed opportunities cover a variety of career stages and fields of research (see each opportunity for further details).

The opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership roles
  • Early Career Researcher positions within groups
  • Short-term project opportunities
  • Reviewing opportunities (e.g. for fellowship applications or project proposals)

Each advertised opportunity gives details regarding the position and how to get in touch with the group advertising.  If you are interested in one of the opportunities, please contact them.

If you are a SCAR group leader or member who would like to advertise on the board, please contact the SCAR Secretariat ([email protected]).

Opportunity: SCAR Fellowship Reviewers

Contact Name and information: [email protected]

Further details:

SCAR offers a number of Fellowship opportunities to all career levels within the Antarctic research community. The number of applications submitted for the yearly SCAR Fellowships is steadily growing, leading to a need for an increase in the number of reviewers SCAR can call upon for help.

SCAR is looking for mid- to late-career researchers who would be able to volunteer a few hours of time in the autumn to help review 3-5 SCAR Fellowship applications.

Fellowship applications are closed in August/September every year and are reviewed the following months with the aim to announce the successful applicants by November/December of the same year.

Reviewers should have some prior experience of working with SCAR – for example, by being a member of a SCAR group. It would be helpful if reviewers had prior experience in reviewing Fellowship applications. This does not have to be SCAR Fellowships, but could be those from the wider Antarctic community, such as the IAATO, CCAMLR, or COMNAP Fellowships.
