SCAR at the Polar Symposium 2024 “The Cold is Getting Hot”

Distinguished scientists, NGO representatives, indigenous knowledge holders, and policymakers gathered at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco from February 22-23, 2024, for the Polar Symposium 2024. Co-organized by SCAR, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), in collaboration with the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco – the Prince Albert I Foundation, the Scientific Center of Monaco, the European Polar Board, and the World Economic Forum, the event aimed to foster collaboration and discussions.

The Symposium served as a platform for engaging workshops, shedding light on upcoming priorities in polar research and policy, and proposing future action plans.

An integral part of the Symposium was the PA2F-SCAR and PA2F-IASC Fellowship Awards Ceremony. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco honored SCAR Fellows Hanna Yevchun (2022 PA2F-SCAR Fellow) and Dieter Tetzner (2023 PA2F-SCAR Fellow) with diplomas during the ceremony. Since 2022, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has provided additional funding for SCAR Fellowships through the Polar Initiative.

For those eager to relive the symposium’s discussions, recordings are now accessible on the Polar Initiative website, accompanied by a detailed list of participants.

In the upcoming months, a summary booklet capturing key insights and takeaways from panels and workshops will be released, providing a comprehensive overview of the Polar Symposium 2024.
