Special Issue of Advances in Polar Sciences (APS) – Now Available Online

Dear colleagues,

The Special Issue of Advances in Polar Science (APS) 2024 vol.35 (1) entitled: “Past and Present Climatic Change in Antarctica: Geological Proxies and Biological Processes” is available online https://aps.chinare.org.cn/EN/home

The guest editors (Carolina Acosta Hospitaleche, Javier N. Gelfo, Marcelo Reguero, Adolfina Savoretti from Argentina, and Li Liao from China) made this special issue motivated by the spirit ignited during the I Provincial Scientific Congress on Antarctica in the city of Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur Province, Argentina, convened in October 2022. The APS call for this volume greatly exceeds expectations and the accepted papers, move from the paleoenvironments of the past, when the Antarctic continent enjoyed benign conditions for the development of both terrestrial and marine ecosystems, to the current fauna that evolved in the coldest temperatures on the planet in an ice desert. In a world drastically affected by anthropogenic activity, particularly climate change, this volume addresses an interdisciplinary perspective, with one foot in the past, one in the present, and a gaze toward the future. This volume represents a humble contribution to addressing these topics. It also stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts and dedication of researchers committed to unraveling the mysteries of Antarctica’s past and present climate dynamics, through the study of different kinds of proxies.

We hope that this volume will be of interest to the SCAR community and promote new research that contributes to Antarctic knowledge.
