Prof Fei Li and Dr Paul Morin have been appointed as the new Chief Officers of the Standing Committee on Antarctic Geographic Information (SCAGI).
SCAGI manages and improves the geographic framework not only for Antarctic scientific research but also for other activities including operations, environmental management and tourism. The Standing Committee delivers and develops a range of geographic information products, such as the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica, the SCAR Antarctic Digital Database, the SCAR Map Catalogue and the SCAR Air Operations Planning Maps Series.
Prof Fei Li stresses that a key priority is to continue to deliver and develop SCAGI products so that they remain useful and relevant for the Antarctic Community. Another key priority for SCAGI is to use National Reports to provide a structure for sharing news about current work. He hopes this will lead to sharing of data and fruitful collaboration.
The Standing Committee seeks to attract countries and organisations to the work of SCAGI in the years to come.
