SCAR is pleased to announce the appointment of Johanna Grabow as Communications and Information Officer.
Johanna has just completed a PhD at Leipzig University, which focused on the reception of Antarctica in literature. Johanna is currently the chair of APECS Germany and has worked seasonally as an expedition guide and lecturer in the Arctic and Antarctic. As part of her PhD she undertook an extended visit to the Scott Polar Research Institute in 2017/18 when she also spent a short period assisting the SCAR secretariat with its preparations for the Davos Open Science Conference. Johanna has a passion for the polar regions and particularly the interplay between science and literature.
Johanna’s work experience includes a position as communications and press officer at a publishing house and as coordinator of the Erasmus Programme.
Johanna will start work at SCAR on 30th September. Her email address is [email protected].
The Secretariat is sad to say goodbye to Alice Oates, who is leaving to take up a PhD in the historical geographies of Halley Bay at the Scott Polar Research Institute. Alice has been a fantastic member of the Secretariat team and done a great job in reinvigorating our communications. We’re particularly grateful to her for her work on re-launching the SCAR newsletter, updating all of our publicity material and bringing many of our internal systems up to date. We would like to say a huge thank you to Alice for all her hard work and wish her the very best for the future.
