SCAR’s Plastic in Polar Environments Action Group is convening a live event as part of the Ocean Decade Laboratory Live series.
Plastic pollution has become a global environmental issue, reaching even the most pristine and remote wildernesses of our planet. Southern Ocean biodiversity and ecosystem functions are vulnerable to plastic pollution and detrimental impacts are expected on wildlife. Understanding the sources of plastics entering from within and outside the Southern Ocean and quantifying the scale of the problem are necessary to minimize any environmental threat to the biodiversity and ecosystems of the region. This event will discuss innovative solutions and mitigating actions to tackle plastic pollution within a global-scale perspective.
