Lessons from the Poles: Remote living, working and healthcare in the poles, and Antarctica as the ultimate space analogue
A 3 day symposium hosted by JEGBHM, incorporating the JEGBHM section of the Open Science Conference, a diving workshop for the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programmes (COMNAP) and a day of Space- lessons from Antarctica (Australian Antarctic Division)
6th-8th August 2020, Hobart, Tasmania.
You are all warmly invited to attend a unique 3 day symposium, taking place at one of the gateways to Antarctica…..Hobart
SCAR and COMNAP are holding their joint conference this year (SCAR COMNAP 2020) , and so we as the Joint Expert Group on Human Biology and Medecine have taken the opportunity to host a 3 day symposium.
There is something for everyone!
Our main focus as always, is the human, working and living in the polar environments. However, as we know, it is not just how we do that, but how we can translate that experience to other areas, and this year that includes remote diving and space.
Day 1
We are always part of the Open Science Conference, and we have two sessions for the presentation of novel abstracts, with an expansive title to allow a diversity of subjects.
Day 2
COMNAP have requested a remote diving workshop, to share learning, experience and evidence to support members responsible for diving, both for science and for construction.
Day 3
A Day of Space ! Lessons from Antarctica
With the recent launch of the Australian space programme, it is timely for us to immerse ourselves in the space arena. There is a real symbiosis between those living, working and researching in Antarctica, and those trying to live in space. With obviously the modern day space race…to get humans to Mars giving focus to that drive.
Whilst we focus on Antarctica as an analogue for space, we too can learn from the endeavors in space…….it is often quicker to return from the international space station than from some of our Antarctic stations!
See the SCAR COMNAP 2020 website for abstract information, and watch out for symposium registration details coming soon!
