180 scientists participated in the IX Spanish Symposium on Polar Studies, held in Madrid on 5-7 September 2018. It was organized by the Spanish SCAR National Committee, together with the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME) and the Spanish Polar Research Program of the R&D National Plan, with the collaboration of the National Museum of Natural Sciences and the support of the Spanish Polar Committee.
The Symposium brought together the majority of the Spanish community working on research in the polar regions. 126 works were presented (85% of them about Antarctica) and three round tables enabled discussions on different aspects of present and future polar research in Spain. The three invited lectures were presented by Jane Francis, Julian Gutt and Karsten Gohl.
