SC-HASS Biennial Conference: The Global Antarctic

Thursday, May 27th, 2021

The biennial SC-HASS conference will be held 18-19 November 2021, hosted by the Polar Co-operation Research Centre of Kobe University. The SC-HASS Team anticipates a hybrid event with options to attend in person — pandemic permitting — or to present online, with the possibility of panels being scheduled for times that suit participants based outside Japan. The expectation is that a waiver can be arranged to cover registration fees for all participants.

The theme this year is “The Global Antarctic.” As usual, the organisers invite you to interpret the theme broadly: their hope is to provide a friendly forum for scholarship on all aspects of the humanities and social sciences as they relate to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, welcoming scholars from all backgrounds and at all career stages. The local organizers have done great work in proposing a range of presentation options: the organisers hope you will find a format that is both convenient and suitable for the communication of your research. If you have questions regarding the call, please don’t hesitate to contact Peder Roberts (Academic Planning Committee Chair) ([email protected]).

The abstract submission portal will open soon and will remain open until August 2, so please be prepared to engage in this exciting biennial event of the SC-HASS. There will be no fee for submitting an abstract.
