We are very happy to announce that we have a new Secretary joining the core group of the SCAR Action Group on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
Sena Altun is a chemical engineer currently pursuing her Master’s degree in chemical engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). She plays an active role within ITU’s polar sciences research team, contributing to interdisciplinary studies and research projects in polar sciences, environmental science and their biotechnological applications.
As chair of the IEEE ITU Women in Engineering committee, she gained valuable experience in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion by leading initiatives like the STAR project. This project aims to break biases in engineering across Turkey, reaching 70 children from seven regions to teach them about the UN SDG’s and the importance of diversity in STEM especially encouraging girls. Additional she took a course on gender studies at the University and she is part of a team focused on Antarctic polar science, with experience in organizing and managing events.
We are very much looking forward to working with Sena.
