Get involved in the SCAR EDI AG

The SCAR EDI AG is searching for 2 Deputy Chief Officers and 4 LSG Members

We are announcing some exciting opportunities to become involved in the SCAR Action Group (AG) on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). We are recruiting members of the SCAR community for the following positions:

  1. AG Deputy Chief Officers (2 positions)
  2. AG Leadership Steering Group Member (4 positions)

Description of AG Deputy Chief Officer

The SCAR EDI AG consists of a core leadership group that is supported by a Leadership Steering Group (LSG).

The core group manages the day-to-day activities of the AG, collaborates closely with the SCAR Secretariat and other SCAR groups, as well as driving the overall vision and direction of the AG. Currently, this core group consists of 1 Chief Officer, 1 Deputy Chief Officer, 1 Coordinator, and 1 Secretary. To better distribute the work of the core group, while ensuring a transition plan for leadership members, we are recruiting 2 new Deputy Chief Officers for 4-year terms. These new Deputy Chief Officers will have the opportunity to quickly learn the workings and needs of the core group and AG generally under the mentorship of the current core group members. As part of our leadership transition plan, we expect that the newly recruited Deputy Chief Officers will eventually replace the existing Chief Officers in 1 – 2 years, at which point, new Deputy Chief Officers will be recruited. In this way, there will always be 1 – 2 years of overlap between new and old core group members to ensure the transfer of institutional knowledge and adequate training of new recruits.

The Deputy Chief Officer position will require attendance to our online core group meetings twice a month, in addition to a 1 – 3-hour weekly time commitment. Work in the position includes:

  • communicating with other core group members and the LSG via our Discord channel on a daily/weekly basis;
  • drafting and reviewing internal SCAR documents;
  • drafting and reviewing communications within the AG, within SCAR, and to the wider SCAR community;
  • preparing reports and presentations to SCAR and/or representing the AG in SCAR and other fora.

Description of AG Leadership Steering Group Member

The LSG group supports the work of the core group by providing expert advice, reviewing documents and communications, and assisting/leading certain AG projects. The current group has 9 members, who represent a range of experience in the EDI space.

As a member of the LSG, you will be expected to attend online LSG meetings that take place every other month, in addition to a time commitment of 2 – 4 hours per month. Work in the position includes:

  • providing advice to the core group;
  • reviewing documents (i.e., internal SCAR documents, communications, reports, presentations);
  • contributing to and/or leading AG project (e.g., analyzing demographic data, developing/updating SCAR forms)
  • representing the AG in SCAR and other fora.
