SCAR welcomes Science and Operations Officer

We are delighted to introduce Emma Needham as the Science and Operations Officer at SCAR.

Emma has an academic background in environmental geosciences and science communication and has an MSci and MSc respectively in these subjects, both from Imperial College London. Her MSci research project explored changes in the East Antarctic Ice Sheet over geological timeframes.

Emma has worked in outreach for the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative, has completed freelance work for SCAR and the European Polar Board, and her most recent role was as Network Manager for the UN Ocean Decade.

Emma’s role as Science and Operations Officer involves supporting the Executive Director with a variety of tasks including coordinating SCAR’s subsidiary groups, coordinating the SCAR community’s input into international projects, and supporting SCAR’s links with international partners.

Emma has joined the secretariat for a 12 month period initially, to support the secretariat team and the Executive Director who is currently working reduced hours.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Emma as she takes on this new role. She joined the SCAR Secretariat in January 2024. For any correspondence, you can reach Emma at her email address: [email protected].

Welcome to the team, Emma!
