The Antarctic Treaty, considered to be one of the most successful achievements of the international community, was signed on 1st December 1959. To commemorate this day the international polar community celebrates Antarctica Day on the 1st December every year.
To celebrate Antarctica Day 2021 there are a number of events taking part within the SCAR community. All events are taking place on the 1st December 2021.
1. SCAR/APECS Germany Fellowships webinar
APECS Germany and SCAR are organising a webinar on the SCAR Fellowship Programme. The webinar will be held via Zoom on Antarctica Day, 1st December 2021 at 3pm UTC/4pm CET.

2. Southern Ocean Decade Update Webinar
Almost 1 year has passed since the beginning of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021 – 2030).The Southern Ocean Task Force is providing an update on progress with a webinar at 3pm UTC/4pm CET on the 1st December.

3. Comisión Colombiana del Océano celebrates Antarctica Day
The Comisión Colombiana del Océano (CCO) and partners are running an live event in celebration of Antarctica Day. The event will be livestreamed on YouTube at 1pm UTC on the 1st December. Professor Jefferson Cardia Simões, SCAR Vice President for Finance will be invited to speak on the first panel “Antarctic Forums for International Cooperation”.

4. APECS Antarctica Day webinar
APECS is celebrating Antarctica Day with a webinar series introducing you to life in Antarctica. Researchers and staff members currently working in Antarctica will share their first-hand experiences of life in Antarctica research stations in three webinars on the 1st November
