Stef Bokhorst
VU Amsterdam
Stef is interested in the interplay between plants and soil animals and how they affect ecosystem processes. In particular, the role of cryptogams and their influence on soil characteristics and climate are highly relevant for soil animals. The impact of climate change on these interactions and processes plays a dominant role in most of his work. In particular, the simulation of warming events during winter (in northern Scandinavia) and year-round climate warming in the Antarctic. In addition, there is great interest in the role of marine vertebrates as nutrient-vectors between ocean and land and how this affects biodiversity.
Current research projects / interests:
- Terrestrial ecology;
- Extreme events;
- Climate change;
- Invasive species.
Keywords: Cryptogam-Invertebrate interactions; Invasive species; Ocean-Land interactions.
