I’m Australian and my heritage is Aboriginal and European with family connections in Victoria, Tasmania and England. I work to reconcile new and ancient ways of knowing my place in our changing natural world. As an artist and interactive author I lead the Living Data program, to explore with scientists and other artists the similar and different ways we understand and respond to the changes.
I trained to be a dancer and a visual artist. After working in Antarctica as an Australian Antarctic Arts Fellow, I moved to Sydney and completed a Diploma of Aboriginal Studies at Eora College, and then a PhD in New Media Arts at the University of New South Wales. My PhD resulted in a language of primal gestural forms that I still use to combine scientific data and subjective responses. I’m a continuing student at Eora College, an Associate of the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology Sydney, and an occasional Visiting Scientist (a.k.a. Artist) at the Australian Antarctic Division in Kingston, Tasmania.
My work is presented online, in public spaces and at conferences and exhibitions, including Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings and climate art and science festivals. Animations are published at Antarctic Animation, Australian Antarctic Division, Polar Time Helmholtz Virtual Institute, Creature Cast and Living Data. Other Artworks are commissioned, leased and purchased.
