University of Tasmania
Bruno Arpi is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Law and the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania (Australia). He holds a Master of Law (LL.M) degree from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and he graduated as a Lawyer (Abogado) at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina) where he has been teaching Public International Law since 2017. His particular interests lie in the areas of the international governance of the Antarctic, geopolitics, international law of the sea, geography, history, international relations, and international law.
His current research aims to analyse how Argentina and Australia have approached and may approach geopolitical tensions during critical moments in the history of the ATS. Bruno examines the current institutional and legal challenges faced by the ATS and looks for innovative approaches to balance a variety of different interests in the region. His PhD is linked to the Australian Research Council Grant-Discovery Project ‘Geopolitical Change and the Antarctic Treaty System’, and its outputs will contribute a Latin American perspective on Antarctic affairs to this research project.
