Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC)
Blanca Figuerola is currently a Beatriu de Pinós / Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM-CSIC). Her research sits between the established disciplines of biodiversity, ecology and conservation paleobiology. Her current research focuses on the impacts of global change on marine calcifiers and their associated microbiome from the Antarctica and the Mediterranean sea. During her research career, she has participated in several multidisciplinary projects (8 as Principal Investigator) involving lab and fieldwork in Antarctica (5 Antarctic projects, 2008-2023), temperate and tropical regions.
Current research projects / interests:
- Impacts of global change on marine calcifiers and their associated microbiome;
- Diversity and biogeography of benthic communities;
- Chemical ecology;
- Non-native species;
- Conservation paleoecology
Keywords: Global change; Ocean acidification; Benthic diversity; Marine calcifiers; Antarctic Bryozoa; Non-native species
