Thursday, July 23rd, 2020

AVdP iceberg calving webA SCAR 2020 Online parallel session on “Public engagement with Antarctica in a changing climate” will be held on Wednesday 29th July at 05:00-08:00 UTC.

A primary goal of SCAR is to “communicate scientific information about the Antarctic region to the public.” In recent years, this project has taken on new urgency, as Antarctic research increasingly focuses on issues of urgent global significance such as climate change, ice melt and environmental protection. This session will be looking at ways to describe, evaluate, contextualize and critique the diverse ways in which scientists, communicators and educators engage with different publics, and the ways in which publics engage with Antarctic science.  A particular focus may be communicating issues of global importance in an effort to effect change.

In order to attend, you must register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Contact Zoe Heine for queries about the session.
