SCAR announces the 2019 Visiting Scholars

Visiting Scholars news buttonSCAR is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2019 Visiting Scholarships.

Thanks to the kind additional support of Switzerland and India, three Scholarships have been awarded in 2019 to Letizia Tedesco (Italy), Larysa Samchyshyna (Ukraine) and Sergey Kakareka (Belarus).

Letizia Tedesco web

 

Prof Letizia Tedesco will visit the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She aims to build capacity in South Africa by providing training and mentoring on sea- ice ecosystem and biogeochemistry topics.

 

Larysa Samchyshyna web 

Dr Larysa Samchyshyna will visit the Australian Antarctic Division, Australia. Her visit aims to establish a base for information exchange and start a dialog for improvement and unification of krill methods.

Sergey Kakareka web
Prof Sergey Kakareka will visit the Antarctic Research Centre at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His visit aims to build capacities in the Belarusian SCAR society for conducting research strongly related to SCAR scientific groups and programmes.

The Visiting Scholarship scheme is directed at scientists and academics, more than five years after completing their PhD, whose work contributes to the research objectives of SCAR. It offers them opportunity to undertake a short-term visit to another SCAR member country to provide or receive training or mentoring. The ultimate goal is to promote capacity building in the host and home countries, and to develop long-term links and partnerships, leading to advances in Antarctic research.
