On 1 October 2024, Dr. Yeadong Kim, the immediate past-president of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research, became the co-Editor-in-Chief of the international peer-reviewed journal Advances in Polar Science. The current Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Huigen Yang from Polar Research Institute of China, and Dr. Yeadong Kim now co-lead the international Editorial Board comprising 46 disciplinary experts.
Dr. Kim has a background in geology and geophysics and his interests are multichannel seismic, tectonics and paleoclimate in the Northern Antarctic Peninsula.

On 31 October 2024, Dr. Yeadong Kim was invited to visit the Polar Research Institute of China. During his visit, he engaged in insightful discussions with the Editor-in-Chief, the standing deputy Editor-in-Chief and the staff of the Editorial Office regarding the journal’s development and promotion plan in the coming years. Additionally, he participated in the 20th Anniversary of Asian Forum for Polar Sciences (AFoPS) representing SCAR and the International Symposium on Polar Sciences ‒ the 40th anniversary of CHINARE held in Shanghai in late October 2024.
Advances in Polar Science, established in 1990, is a quarterly published, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to disseminating advances and achievements in research related to polar regions. The journal is included in prestigious databases such as Scopus and Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD).
