Advances in Polar Science logoThe journal Advances in Polar Science (APS) is looking for submissions for their special issue “Marine Ecosystem and Climate Change in the Southern Ocean”.

The ecosystem in the Southern Ocean is complicated and unique in the world. In the context of global warming, any change of environment in the Southern Ocean, such as variations of sea ice coverage and water masses, increasing of fresh water influx from Antarctic ice sheet, will influence the marine ecosystem. However, the knowledge of this marine ecosystem and its response to the climate change is limited.

The main purpose of this volume is to understand the changes of basic marine environment (including paleo-environment) in the Southern Ocean, diversity of marine populations at different trophic levels and its control factors, the material and energy flows in the ecosystem, and the potential response of populations and ecosystem to the climate and environment change.

APS is an international, peer-reviewed and open-access journal sponsored by the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC) and Chinese Society for Oceanography. Since 2015, APS has become more truly international, and been improving, with its inclusion in Scopus in May of 2020, with the appointments of two new Co-Editors-in-Chief (Dr. Huigen Yang and Dr. Ian Allison), and a new expert team of disciplinary editors. Articles published in APS are free of charge with generous funding from PRIC.

This special issue on “Marine Ecosystem and Climate Change in the Southern Ocean” will be released as a general issue of APS (Volume 32, Issue 3) in September of 2021. As this will be a scheduled special issue of APS, there will be strict adherence to the following deadlines.

  • 15 December 2020 – deadline for submitting titles of possible contributions.
  • 31 March 2021 – deadline for submitting a manuscript for this issue.
  • 15 July 2021 – deadline for submission of the final accepted paper.
  • September 2021 – publication date.

Length Limit:

The limit extension of 15 pages (about 10000 words) for each paper.

If you are interested in this proposal, please send us or Editorial Office (journal@pric.org.cn) a tentative title and the name of all possible co-authors (see Feedback Sheet). The submitted manuscripts will be subject to a full peer-review process (through the Editorial Office and the ScholarOne Manuscripts online system). The guidelines for the format of papers can be found at: http://www.aps-polar.org/authors/instructions.
