The latest SCAR Bulletin is now published on the website. Bulletin 204 contains a report on “Anthropogenic Noise in the Southern Ocean: an Update”, which was a Background Paper submitted to ATCM XLII and CEP XXII in 2019.
Questions regarding the impacts of underwater noise on Antarctic marine wildlife have been of interest to the CEP (Committee for Environmental Protection of the Antarctic Treaty) for more than two decades, and SCAR has been an active participant and contributor to these discussions. Following recent requests from the CEP, SCAR initiated a comprehensive process to update the current state of knowledge on underwater noise, which culminated in this paper.
The paper is posted on the Bulletins page of the website, where all previous SCAR Bulletins are available to view and download.
