SCAR is offering travel grants of up to US$ 2,000 to support early career researchers (ECRs) in attending the XIV International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences (ISAES), to be held in Punta Arenas, Chile, from 18–22 August 2025. The grants aim to assist with travel and registration costs.
Eligibility and Guidelines
- Applications are open to early career researchers (defined as postgraduate students, PhD students and those within 7 years of their PhD).
- Priority will be given to ECRs from countries with developing economies or economies in transition, as defined by the United Nations. Individuals from underrepresented groups in the sciences are especially encouraged to apply.
- Applicants must have submitted an abstract to the XIV ISAES in order to be eligible for the award.
Award Details
- Grants of up to US$ 2,000 are available to cover travel, accommodation, and registration fees. Please note that US$ 2,000 is the maximum amount that can be awarded per applicant.
- In order to support as many applicants as possible while addressing individual financial needs, funding will be allocated based on need and budgetary availability.
- Please note that grants will be reimbursed only after the conference—no funds will be issued in advance unless circumstances have been discussed and approved beforehand.
- Recipients will be required to provide a certificate of attendance from ISAES and copies of all relevant expense receipts.
- Detailed instructions on claiming the reimbursement will be provided to recipients after the conference.
- Results of the selection process will be communicated by the end of July.
