The 5th International Glacial and Ice Patch Archaeology Symposium or Frozen Pasts 5 (FP5) continues the tradition of glacial and ice patch archaeology conferences begun in Bern in 2008. FP5 is the international gathering for glacial and ice patch archaeology and all research oriented toward the human dimensions of frozen environments at all latitudes and on all continents. Join other archaeologists, anthropologists, ecologists, and geologists to share new findings and plan collaborative research activities.

We anticipate safely holding our in-person event in September. Some social distancing, personal masking, and extra ventilation may still be needed to ensure the health and wellness of conference attendees, resort employees and the local community. We continue to monitor the situation and will make changes as needed.

In addition to papers focused on glacial and ice patch archaeology and associated topics (e.g., ice patch related paleoenvironmental studies), we have a wonderful program arranged with leading tribal figures sharing plenary lunch presentations, in-conference field trips (including an ice patch archaeology exhibition at the Yellowstone Heritage Center), and a keynote address by Dr. William Taylor on the emergence of glacial and ice patch archaeology in the Mongolian Altai.

Registration is now open and the registration and abstract deadline is 15 July 2021.
