5th European Conference On Permafrost (EUCOP5)
From Saturday 23 June 2018
To Sunday 01 July 2018
Hits : 3967

The conference aims at covering all relevant aspects of permafrost research, engineering and outreach on a global and regional level.  Three exciting days of plenary lectures, oral presentations and posters will be completed by two breathtakingdays of local field trips in the Mont Blanc massif. Three scenic two-day-long field trips in the Aosta Valley (Italy), Valais (Switzerland) and Ecrins massif (France) will close the conference.

Inspired from the research developments exposed during the last conferences on permafrost, the following general themes denote the diversity of research to be presented at the conference:

  • Mountain permafrost
  • Lowland permafrost
  • Periglacial geomorphology and paleoenvironments
  • Planetary permafrost
  • Permafrost and climate change
  • Climate and carbon feedback
  • Ecology, microbiology, biogeochemistry
  • Natural hazards
  • Foundation engineering and infrastructure on permafrost
  • In-situ and remote observation techniques and programs
  • Modelling
  • Socioeconomic and cultural dynamics
  • History of permafrost engineering and research
  • Education and outreach
  • Infra-periglacial geomorphology
  • Risks on permafrost-affected slopes
  • Forest/ice/snow covers on permafrost
  • Critical zone

These themes are by no means restrictive and we especially wish to favour a transdisciplinary, holistic and systemic vision of the
questions that the permafrost community faces. This latter includes researchers as well as stakeholders, socio-economic, political and cultural actors, commonly engaged to address the societal challenges of permafrost in a warming world.
