The regional focus of the Conference and Workshop will be Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and adjacent islands, the sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. There will be ample possibilities to discuss contributions and to elaborate on open scientific issues as well as new project ideas.
The official programme starts with a reception on Friday evening, 14 July, and a programme of visits over the weekend of 15-16 July in Berlin and the surrounding area.
An open science meeting, open to all, will be held on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 July, with potential sessions on the following, and other related topics:
It is organised by the GABY-VASA project, a joint project from Chile and Germany with the University of Magallanes (Punta Arenas), the Instituto Antártico Chileno (INACH), the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and RWTH Aachen University. The project studies dendrochronology, climatology and glaciology in Southern Patagonia and the Cordillera Darwin mountains.
There is no conference fee but participants must cover their own travel, lodging and catering expenses. Participants from outside the GABY-VASA project are asked for a contribution to help cover the costs of the social events and visits planned for the opening weekend.
On Wednesday 19 July, there will be an internal workshop of the GABY-VASA group with participants from Chile and Germany.
Full details, including information on abstract submission (deadline 31 March 2017) and registration (deadline 15 May 2017), can be found on the Conference website.
