Project: Understanding past and future changes in Antarctic sea ice seasonality
Antarctic sea ice protects the Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) against oceanic influences. Thus, a good understanding of sea ice is essential to better constrain the future of the AIS and quantify its contribution to sea level change. My thesis aims to progress this understanding by adopting a seasonal perspective, relevant to impact studies of sea ice changes. The main objective for this project is to enrich Kenza’s PhD works, dedicated to Antarctic sea ice seasonality, in collaboration with Dr. Sharon Stammerjohn, an expert of Antarctic sea ice. In fact, Dr. Stammerjohn has developed satellite-based diagnostics of sea-ice seasonality and identified large changes in the latter.
